RUFORUM Community Action Research Programme

RUFORUM in partnership with mastercard foundation is implementing a programme known as “Transforming African Agricultural Universities to meaningfully contribute to Africa’s growth and development (TAGDev)”. The TAGDev Programme seeks to transform African agricultural universities and their graduates to better respond to developmental challenges through enhanced application of science, technology, business and innovation for rural agricultural transformation. Under TAGDev, there is a specific focus on community action research designed to allow African universities develop and capitalise more comprehensive and sustainable participatory action research and establish platforms for engagement with all the stakeholders including the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.  The Programme is known as the Community Action Research Programme PLUS (CARP+). Each community action research project involve training graduates (PhD. and MSc.) and undergraduates in particular countries or geographic areas,  a selected commodities, and nest its research along the full commodity value chain. CARP+ Students Profiles

Manal Elzuber is a Sudanese. She is working in the Department of Production and Resource Management at the State Ministry of Agriculture, North Kordofan State, Sudan. Currently, she is awarded a Scholarship by Regional University Forum for Capacity Building in Agricultural (RUFORUM) under RUFORUM Community Action Research Program (CARP+), pursuing a Master of Science in Crop Protection majoring Entomology at University of Kordofan, Sudan. Her research title is on “Effect of Using Recommended Sesame Production Packages and Control Methods with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) on Elasmolomus sordidus in North Kordofan State”. The research focuses on Sesame as an important oil seed crop in Sudan with oil content varying between 40% and 60 % according to variety, Sesame seeds contain Excellent oil used for food and many other domestic purposes, it is also used in confectionery and sweet preparation. The seed cake is also used as animal feed

MohammedElbadrey Abdollrhman Abdallah (Sudanese) was born in 1985, and grew up in Ghibaish Locality, West Kordofan State, Sudan. He lives in Sheikan Locality, North Kordofan State. He is working at the State Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, North Kordofan State, Sudan. He is married with two children. He obtained a Bachelor of science in Forestry (Second class Division one honors) from Faculty of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, University of Kordofan, Sudan. Currently, he is awarded a Scholarship by Regional University Forum for Capacity Building in Agricultural (RUFORUM) under RUFORUM Community Action Research Program (CARP+): Management of Natural Resource in Dry lands, pursuing a Master of Science in Forestry, University of Kordofan, Sudan. His research title is on “Evaluation of Ecosystem Functions and Management Practices of El-Ain Natural Reserved Forest, Sheikan Locality, North Kordofan, Sudan” .

Manahil Eldow Ali Elsanosy is a Sudanese, lives in Umrawaba Locality, North Kordofan State, Sudan. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Animal production from Faculty of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, University of Kordofan, Sudan. She is working in the Department of Production and Economic Resources Management in Umrawaba locality. Currently, she is awarded a Scholarship by Regional University Forum for Capacity Building in Agricultural (RUFORUM) under RUFORUM Community Action Research Program (CARP+): Management of Natural Resource in Dry lands, pursuing a Master of Science in Animal Production at University of Kordofan. Her research title is on “Evaluation of Cows’ Dung as a source of alternative energy in rural communities in North Kordofan State”. The state has a huge number of the livestock and a big amount of waste, therefore the research aims at convert the cow’s dung to alternative and clean energies through Biogas Technology. She has a dream to contribute to farmers’ development

Ibrahim Bakri Elnour (Sudanese) was born in 1995 and grew up in West Kordofan State, Sudan. He obtained a Bachler degree from Faculty of Natural Resources & Environmental Studies, University of Kordofan, and graduated with First class majoring Agricultural Economics & Rural Development. Currently he is a beneficiary of Regional University Forum for Capacity Building in Agricultural (RUFORUM) Scholarship under RUFORUM Community Action Research Program (CARP+) at University of Kordofan, pursuing a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics and Rural Development on “Effectiveness of natural resources management in traditional rain fed subsector: Value Chain analysis of some field crops in north Kordofan State”. This study will provide farmers with information regarding the crops marketing and strategies to increase their competitive advantage along the value chain as well as the difference in gross margins obtained from individual and group sales of product.

Hmedan Mohammad Bakhiet Khmes (Sudanese) was born in 1991, and grew up in Aldali, Sennar, Sudan. He obtained a Bachelor of Science from the Department of Rural Extension and Social Development, Faculty Natural Resources and Environment Studies at University of Kordofan, and graduated with specialization in Rural Extension (first Class Honors) in 2017. He worked as Intern at IFAD. Currently he is a beneficiary of Regional University Forum for Capacity Building in Agricultural (RUFORUM) Scholarship under RUFORUM Community Action Research Program (CARP+), pursuing a Master of Science in Rural Extension at University of Kordofan. His research title is on “Impact of climate changes on production some field crops in Sheikan, north Kordofan state, Sudan”. He has two years’ experience in Agricultural practices, community based health first aid, primary health care, nursing home, disasters, and constitution knowledge. He received training in different areas including self-improvement, participation of Youth Leadership programming and GPS programming. He has a dream to introduce a plant with high yielding to increase production that adopted to help with climate changes impact. Faisal Ismail Musa (Sudanese) was born in 1995, and grew up in Koshina Village, Tawila Locality. He is a resident in Sheikan Locality at North Kordofan State, Sudan. This Locality is allocated within Gum Arabic belt of Sudan. He graduated from College of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, University of Bahri, Sudan with Bachelor of Science in Forestry (first class honors). Currently he is a beneficiary of Regional University Forum for Capacity Building in Agricultural (RUFORUM) Scholarship under RUFORUM Community Action Research Program (CARP+), pursuing Master of Science in Forestry from University of Kordofan, Sudan. His research title “Value chain analysis for selected Non – Wood Forest Products in Sheikan Locality, North Kordofan State, Sudan”..

 

 Alaaeldin Ahmed Elddai FaragAllah is a Sudanese. He is working as Officer in Alrrahad Agriculture Office, the State Ministry of Agriculture, North Kordofan State, Sudan. Currently, He is a beneficiary of Regional University Forum for Capacity Building in Agricultural (RUFORUM) Scholarship under RUFORUM Community Action Research Program (CARP+), pursuing Master of Science in Crop Protection specialization in plant pathology at University of Kordofan, Sudan. His research title is on “Integrated management of pearl millet head miner Heliocleilus albipunctella (De Joaniss) in North Kordofan State”. His research focuses mainly on increasing millet productivity by preventing the pest damage and reducing losses caused by the millet head miner. He has a dream to become an Expert in Crop Protection through which he can contribute to agriculture production and Food Security.

Aisha Ahmed Adam (Sudanese) was born in 1993 in North kordofan state, Sudan. She obtained Bachelor degree in Agronomy from University of Kordofan. She is working as a teaching assistant in the Faculty of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies at University of Kordofan. Currently, she is a beneficiary of Regional University Forum for Capacity Building in Agricultural (RUFORUM) Scholarship under RUFORUM Community Action Research Program (CARP+), pursuing Master of Science in Crop Sciences at University of Kordofan. Her research title is on “Evaluation and Trait Relationships in Some Land Races of Pearl Millet in Dry Lands, Sheikan Locality, North Kordofan State”. Her research focuses on evaluating and trait relationships in some land races of pearl millet, and estimating the drought resistance of the land races based on their performance. She has a dream to see Sudan is a leading country in agriculture production
