RUFORUM Community Action Research Programme

RUFORUM in partnership with mastercard foundation is implementing a programme known as “Transforming African Agricultural Universities to meaningfully contribute to Africa’s growth and development (TAGDev)”. The TAGDev Programme seeks to transform African agricultural universities and their graduates to better respond to developmental challenges through enhanced application of science, technology, business and innovation for rural agricultural transformation. Under TAGDev, there is a specific focus on community action research designed to allow African universities develop and capitalise more comprehensive and sustainable participatory action research and establish platforms for engagement with all the stakeholders including the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.  The Programme is known as the Community Action Research Programme PLUS (CARP+). Each community action research project involve training graduates (PhD. and MSc.) and undergraduates in particular countries or geographic areas,  a selected commodities, and nest its research along the full commodity value chain. CARP+ Students Profiles

JUWAYRIYA ZAKARIA ABDULLAH is M.Sc. student who graduated from OMDURMAN ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY the degree of Bachelor of Agriculture (B. Sc. Honors). Specialization: Horticultural crops (full Time) with grade (V. good) on 29th June 2015 .she is currently of second year, RUFORUM CARP+ project scholarship beneficiary pursuing a masters in crop science of Peace university with a major focus in Horticultural crops. JUWAYRIYA has worked with Ministry of Agriculture in October 2019.

 

Ezzaldean lbrahim Ezzaldean lbrahim is Sudan who graduated from University of Bakht Al Ruda .with degrees in Agriculture and natural resources in2008. He currently second yera. Ruforum project scholarship beneficiary pursuing amasters in Appraising the Pathogenicity of Bacillus thuringiensis and Bioactivity of crude Honey Bee Venom Combination Against the Grater Wax Moth Galleria Mellonella of Asalam University with a major focus in crop protection the research between 2018----2020..the outcomes of the own personal research and time will indeed be the best opportunity long awaited for her to build career as scientist.

 

 

Marwa Kamal Aldien (Sudanese) graduated from University of Khartoum, Faculty of Agriculture. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Department of Botany and Agricultural Biotechnology, Second Degree division 1.

Currently she is working on a scholarship funded by RURORUM to obtain a Master of Science in Agricultural Biotechnology. The title of research is “Evaluation and Enhancement of “Ambiggy” (Wild potato) in food security during famine in Darfur State. I aspire to be a member of FAO

Tasnim Hunin, is a Sudanese, and grew up invSennar state, Sudan, where farmers practices commercialvcash crop production and dairy farming. Tasnim wasvgraduated from, Faculty of Agriculture, Omdurman Islamic University, with First class (Excellent) bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences 2012.

She is currently a second year, RUFORUM CARP+ project Scholarship beneficiary, pursuing a Masters in Goat production, at University of Gezira, with a major focus in Fatting goat kids  She is worked as a teaching assistant at Faculty of Agriculture, Omdurman Islamic University, since early 2018. Her dream is develop Animal Production Sector to address the address the existing challenges of the Meat Production system in Sudan. Tasnim hopes to become the person in-change of Livestock at National Level in Sudan in the future.

Keheng Basiame is a Motswana pursuing her Masters in Crop Science, majoring in Crop Protection at Botswana University of Agriculture and    Natural Resources (BUAN). She is a first year RUFORUM CARP+ project beneficiary. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 2008 with second class, upper Division (4.2 GPA) at Botswana College of Agriculture, now BUAN. After completing her undergraduate studies, she joined Ministry of Agriculture as an intern in February 2009, getting permanently employed in November 2011 as an Agricultural Extension Officer whose duties includes; providing technical support to arable farmers and conducting demonstrations on crop production technologies and modern agricultural practices. Before permanent employment, Keheng worked as Agriculture Instructor at Thuso Rehabilitation Center - Botswana, where she taught People Living with Disability on horticulture and field Crop production. She believes studying Crop Protection is an opportunity for her to address gaps discovered in her 8 years working as crop production extension officer.

Marang Mosupiemang is a Motswana who graduated at Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN) with BSc in Crop Science Horticulture and MSc Crop Science Soil Science in 2014 and 2018 respectively.

Currently, she is enrolled as a first year PhD student in Crop Science Horticulture at BUAN under the sponsorship of RUFORUM CARP+ project. She worked at the Department of Agriculture Research in Botswana between June 2018 and August 2019 as an Intern Assistant Research Officer under Soil and Water programme. Her aspiration is to be researcher who will bring solutions to increase the productivity of farmers as a way of ensuring food security. This scholarship opportunity will enable her to acquire all the necessary skills to fulfil her aspirations
