Uganda Martyrs University is excited to announce the first cohort of 16 scholars for the Transforming African Agricultural Universities to Meaningfully Contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development (TAGDev 2.0) program. The 16 scholars for the 2025/2026 academic year were selected from a competitive pool of 928 applicants, including 376 females, 552 males, 151 refugees and 53 differently abled persons. The selection committee meticulously evaluated each application with a deliberate effort to enhance gender balance and representation from marginalized groups, thereby setting a precedent for future cohorts. One of the key objectives of ADVALUE is to modernise doctoral programs by introducing innovative courses on transdisciplinary research methods and value chain approaches. Four modules were therefore developed and are now being implemented in pilot trainings. Module 3: Sustainable rangeland resource management, is intended to equip the learners with a good understanding of the arid and semi-arid rangeland ecosystems and pastoral production systems that dominates these ecosystems.
