Director of IITA in Ibadan, Nigeria

Dr. Kwesi Atta Krah, a citizen of Ghana, is Director, Advocacy and Country Alignment at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Ibadan, Nigeria. Prior to this, from 2013 to December 2016, he was Executive Director of Humidtropics - the CGIAR Research Program on Integrated Systems for the humid tropics, that was led by IITA. Between June 2005 and January 2013, Dr. Atta-Krah was Deputy Director General of Bioversity International, a CGIAR Centre based in Rome, Italy, and engaged in the promotion of sustainable use and conservation of agricultural biodiversity. Earlier in his professional career, he worked with International Plant Genetic Resources Institute (IPGRI), as Director for Africa; and with the International Livestock Centre for Africa, ILCA (now ILRI), as forage agronomist and farming systems scientist. He is also a member of the Long-term Europe-Africa Partnership for Food and Nutrition Security, and Sustainable Agriculture (LEAP4FNSSA), a Coordination and Support Action that aims to enhance collaboration between Europe and Africa in Agricultural Research and Innovation. Dr Atta-Krah holds a BSc. degree in Crop Science from the University of Ghana, Legon (1977), and M.Sc. and PhD degrees in Agroforestry and Natural Resources Management respectively from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria (1980, 1984). His professional interests and expertise span Agricultural Systems, Natural Resources Management, Research Management, Leadership and Capacity Development. He has authored several publications and contributed to books on these subjects. .
