Call for Side Event workshops
Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) invites interested institutions/organisations and individuals to convene side events relevant to higher education in Africa at the sixth RUFORUM Biennial Conference. The side events should be relevant to the overall theme of the Conference ‘Aligning African Universities to Accelerate Attainment of Africa’s Agenda 2063’ and address specifically at least one of the sub- themes of the sixth RUFORUM Biennial Conference, and its outcomes should provide contribution towards the overall Conference objectives. The RUFORUM Biennial Conference sub themes are:
How to Indicate Interest to Hold a Side Event
Interested organisations/institutions/individual should provide a brief (1-3page) concept note providing a brief with highlights of the proposed side event. The Concept Note should include the following sections: Title of the event; brief background including rationale and objectives; approach; expected outcomes; draft programme, and list of expected participants (including number that will be funded by the side event organisers). The Program Committee requires that for an event to qualify as a side event, it should be able to support at least 10 participants to the meeting.
Side Event Funding Arrangements
The side event conveners/ organisers will pay all costs related to the holding of the side event including participants, venue/meeting facilities, and projector hire, teas/water and registration fees.
About the Sixth RUFORUM Biennial Conference and African Higher Education Week
RUFORUM together with its member Universities in Kenya is organizing a sixth RUFORUM Biennial Conference and African Higher Education Week which will be held in Nairobi, Kenya 22-26 October, 2018. The Overall Conference theme is Aligning African Universities to Accelerate Attainment of Africa’s Agenda 2063. The conference is expected to bring together about 1000 participants from across Africa and the world to discuss how to accelerate universities and farming communities to better sustain the budding enterprise development in Africa. The Conference will bring key actors together including; universities (including leadership, staff and students), CSOs, development partners, Governments and Foundation bodies, African Union Commission, and the business and farming community. This Sixth Africa Higher Education Week and RUFORUM Biennial Conference will be co-organised by RUFORUM and its member universities in Kenya: University of Nairobi, Egerton University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenyatta University, University of Eldoret, Moi University, and Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, plus other Kenyan institutions, including Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation and the Commission for Higher Education.
A side event is a meeting, exhibition or other event that is organized as a parallel event at the RUFORUM Biennial Conference within agreed time period/ slots. The available time periods are either during the Conference at specific time periods, or pre and/or post conference.
