Created in 1966 by Royal Decree and endowed with legal personality and financial autonomy, the Institute started with 12 students and courses taught by foreign teachers.
As early as October 1969, the Government Authorities expressed the desire to see veterinary training carried out in Morocco and entrusted this mission to the Institute which took the name "Hassan II Agronomic and Veterinary Institute".
The Hassan II Agronomic and Veterinary Institute went from 12 students taking courses taught by foreign teachers in 1966 to its current status of 2019 students and 30 specialization programs in two campuses, namely Rabat and Agadir. The 220 current teacher-researchers are 98% Moroccans involved in 70 different scientific disciplines. Foreign students (from 40 Arab, African, South American countries, etc.) represent 5 to 8% of the student body (from 1972 to 1995) and are mostly on scholarships from the Moroccan Government.
