The Scholarships:
The Doctoral Regional Scholarships will provide for tuition, living stipend, research expenses in the student’s home country, supervision costs and travel over a three to four year period. The candidates will carry out their course work at the host university and their research in their home country. For this first call, priority will be given to candidates who are already staff members at;
• The newer RUFORUM member universities
• University of Ghana,Legon, Ghana
• University of Cape Coast, Ghana
• University of Bayero, Nigeria
• University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria
Six (6) scholarships are available to applicants from Ghana (University of Cape Coast and
University of Ghana, Legon) and Nigeria (University of Port Harcourt and University of
Bayero) to attend one of the RUFORUM Regional PhD Programmes. Two (2) scholarships
are available for applicants from Eastern, Central and Southern Africa (RUFORUM
members). Women candidates are highly ecouraged to apply.

This is to announce a Call for PhD candidates from West Africa and RUFORUM member universities to apply for Doctoral Regional Scholarships to attend any one of RUFORUM Regional PhD Programmes. The eligible Regional PhD Programmes are;
• Dryland Resource Management, University of Nairobi, Kenya
• Plant Breeding and Biotechnology, Makerere University, Uganda
• Aquaculture and Fisheries Science, Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural
• Resources, Malawi
• Agricultural and Resource Economics, Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural
• Resources, Malawi
• Soil and Water Management, Sokoine University of Agricultulture, Tanzania
• Agricultural and Rural Innovation, Makerere, Uganda
Candidates will be required to show proof of acceptance into one of these programmes
