The Botswana College of Agriculture invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following positions:

 A) DEPARTMENT OF BASIC SCIENCES
 
I) VACANCY CIRCULAR NO. 2011:09:74 (BS)
 
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER IN CHEMISTRY - ONE POST
Requirements: Candidates must possess a BSc/ BA in Chemistry or related field plusan MSc in Chemistry.A PhD in Chemistry will be an added advantage. Preference will be given to applicants with emphasis in chemistry related analytical techniques and/or synthetic/ phyto-chemical organic chemistry skills.Additional requirements are;
 
i)Associate Professor: At least five (5) years teaching experience at a university or comparable institution and a minimum of twelve (12) pieces of published research products, at least eight (8) of which are refereed journal articles;lead and/or single author in at least six (6) refereed journal articles or book chapters. The candidate must demonstrate academic leadership and service to the university, the profession and the community.Ability to attract external research grants/funds will be an added advantage.
 
ii) SeniorLecturer: At least three (3) years teaching experience as a Lecturer or equivalent post at a university or comparable institution and a minimum of six (6) pieces of published research products, at least four (4) of which are refereed journal articleslead and/or single author in at least two (2) refereed journal articles or book chapters. The candidate must demonstrate service to the university, the profession and the community. Ability to attract external research grants/funds will be an added advantage.
 
Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate students in the following areas: General, Physical, Inorganic, and Organic chemistry; supervise student research projects; provide academic leadership; initiate, develop and establish research programmes in specified areas of need; participate in all academic and professional activities of the department; attract external funding for research and training; and carry out any duties assigned by the supervisor.
 
II) VACANCY CIRCULAR NO. 2011:09:75 (BS)
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ SENIOR LECTURER IN BIOMETRY/BIOSTATISTICS - ONE POST
Requirements: Candidates must possess a BA in Statistics or BSc in Agriculture or related field plus anMSc in Biometry/ Biostatistics. A PhD in Biometry/Biostatistics will be an added advantage. Additional requirements are as follows:-
 
i)Associate Professor: At least five (5) years teaching experience at a university or comparable institution and a minimum of twelve (12) pieces of published research products, at least eight (8) of which are refereed journal articles;lead and/or single author in at least six (6) refereed journal articles or book chapters. The candidate must demonstrate academic leadership and service to the university, the profession and the community.Ability to attract external research grants/funds will be an added advantage.

B) DEPARTMENT OF LIBRARY SERVICES
 
VACANCY CIRCULAR NO 2011:09:76 (LIB)
SENIOR ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN – INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (ONE POST)
Requirements: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Library Information Systems or related field plus four (4) years post qualification experience in the application of Information Technology (IT) in a library environment or Master’s degree in Library Information Systems plus two (2) years post qualification experience in the application of Information Technology (IT) in a library environment. Experience in managing the III Millennium library system would be an added advantage.
 
Duties: The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the computerised library system, developing and implementing various library information systems and databases, providing guidance on IT related issues, training staff and users, facilitating the use of library systems and online databases, and managing library computer workstations and related applications. The candidate will also be required to continually review and update library systems to enhance maximised use.
 
Remuneration:
Associate Professor: BCA Salary Scale L4: P336 540.00 – P386 436.00 per annum
Senior Lecturer: BCA Salary Scale L3: P277 812.00 - P353 760.00 per annum
Senior Assistant Librarian: BCA Salary Scale B6: P180 744.00 – P278 472.00 per annum
 
Fringe Benefits: These include motor vehicle purchase advance scheme, an optional 50% BCA funded medical aid plan and group life assurance scheme. In addition, permanent and pensionable staff are offered residential property advance scheme and a contributory pension scheme while contract staff are offered a gratuity of 25% of their basic salary after successful completion of a two-year contract.

The CV should contain detailed list of courses taught, published works, clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers, names of co-authors, if any, and number of pages. The works should be categorized into books, refereed works, non-refereed works and others.
