What is SSC-Stat? |
SSC-Stat is an add-in for Microsoft Excel. Many people start with their data in Excel, so it is logical to build on that and add some features often needed for statistical analysis. SSC-Stat is designed to strengthen those areas where the spreadsheet package is already strong, principally in the areas of data management, graphics and descriptive statistics. The idea was initially conceived as the result of comments from participants attending courses from the Statistical Services Centre of The University of Reading on "Microsoft Excel for Statistics? What you can and cannot do." SSC-Stat encourages people to look at their data in a way that recognises the structure in the data. SSC-Stat enables graphs (etc.) to be easily generated for datasets in which there are columns indicating different groups. Menu features within SSC-Stat can:

Possible roles for SSC-Stat |
SSC-Stat strengthens the areas of MS Excel where the spreadsheet package is already strong: data management, graphics and descriptive statistics. It does not replace a statistical software package, but could be used when teaching statistics as a stepping stone towards using statistical software. See more on the page: The two faces of MS Excel

Installing SSC-Stat version 2.12 |
Use of SSC-Stat implies acceptance of the terms and conditions (pdf file, 160 Kb). First read the following installation instructions (pdf 24 Kb) before attempting to install SSC-Stat! |
After having read the instructions, run SSC-Stat v2.12 setup.exe (6,840 Kb) if you read this from a CD-ROM (click on the link and then click on the "Open" button). Otherwise download the file. The setup program arranges the files in a single folder on your hard disk. After that you still have to enable access to the add-in from within MS Excel. Again, you find the details in the installation instructions (pdf 24 Kb).
